A William & Mary Walnut Tavern Table

Southeastern Pennsylvania, Circa 1740


plain rectangular top, single drawer above carved apron, with turned legs on four stretchers, the rear retaining old label inscribed, "This table belongs/ to Dr. R.H. Smith/ given to me...Margaret Silvis."

Height 28 x width 42 1/2 x depth 25 1/2 inches.

Condition
overall with nice dry surface; with many scuffs and areas of discoloration, and darkened water rings commensurate with age and use; plugged hole to interior of drawer near handle screw hole; with later wood braces / cleats and metal braces to underside of top; age crack to left-facing upper leg; wear to stretchers; side panels with holes, possibly indicating that the top originally had pins for removable top; age cracks to back right-facing leg; with some old softened losses to some of the turnings
